General update about me

October 30, 2010

Just an update, I’m now working in Alf Jones Cycles in Wrexham and soon to be Gresford.

It’s a massive shop and it’s going to be a great! I’ve actually just finished painting the undercoat on the railings and taking the old signage down.
Can’t wait. The whole back end of the system will be done soon but the EPOS system is my job. Hard but in the end it’ll be awesome. Really worth something.
Can’t wait for this project to get finished. It’ll be epic!

Fibrax Brake Pads (Avid Elixir)

October 30, 2010

I’d been given some pads from Fibrax to test about a month ago and I’d just like to say, AMAZING!

The difference between these and the current ones that are available at the moment is that the material has been changed slightly and it’s also been compressed a hell of a lot more.
Basically the material is denser so they last longer. I found that this didn’t affect the “Bed In” period for the worse.
It was actually a lot quicker than other pads I’ve used in the past! Which is a breath of fresh air IMO as who has the time to actually do 10 short sharp stops without skidding? Not me anyway.
But this is mainly because I’m lazy.
I’ll report more on how these wear as and when, but from the looks of it and from the places I’ve been riding, I dont think it’ll be soon.

Llangollen – Sweety.

September 26, 2010

This ride is short ish at 12 miles but is very fun, Initially there is a lot of riding up hill but you are rewarded with the downs which are fantastic fun if a little bit scary on a cliff edge.

It’s a ride that does require a bit of fitness but if you get tired, push the bike up the hill, you may feel like you’ve let yourself down, but you won’t regret it when you’re flying downhill like a Loony.

You’ll need a bike thats light but manageable down hill. This is proper cross country so it’s uphill slogging a lot of the way.
You’ll only need basic skills as you can always just go a little slower down/around things so it’s not something you need to be a professional to do.

A bit of fitness helps but like I said previously. You can just push it.

Anyway, here it is. (Below)

Orange F8 Fork

Guess what turned up at our door today?

These bad boys:

Super cool, really lightweight forks. They’d be awesome on a SS MTB. I REALLY want some!

Velo Solo 18T 3/32″ Track Sprocket

April 29, 2010

Yesterday I received a Sprocket from Velo Solo,  First thing I noted when I unwrapped this is that the anodising has a sort of wood effect which looks super cool.

Secondly, It weighs about as much as a pen, I kid you not, this baby is super light but as with all Alloy items durability is a massive factor in purchasing such things. But as this will be a long term test “Only time will tell”

Picture’s are below:

Shiney, Shiney!

Made In The UK!

Also thanks to @empian and @tamline for complaining that I had girly gearing,

Velo Solo’s Max and Jo for providing amazing service once again.

Fixie mods.

March 22, 2010

As some of you know, the other day I did some serious Fixie modding.

I’ve had front and rear Weinmann brakes on it whilst I was learning and now is the time to sort that, here’s what I did:

1: Removed that silly rear brake.
2: Took the front brake off.
3: Drilled the fork with a 8mm drill bit so it’d accept a proper new style brake.
4: Installed new brake.
5: Flipped the bars.
6: Measured the bars and chopped them down.
7: Fitted the lever.
8: Re Cabled the brake.
9 Re taped the bars.
10: Double checked everything.

Was good to actually take a bit of time to actualy do something for myself in work. Really enjoyed working on my Fixe.

Cycle Commute into work.

14/03/2010 The Ride To Work.
Find more Bike Rides in Wrexham To Chester., United Kingdom

Very fun, flat (ish) smooth ride into work. Yes it was the long way, but, it was Sunday and i need to get the miles under my belt.

Just as i went over the boarder into England i was riding behind two roadies giving it large, I stayed behind them for a while then blasted it off waving goodbye.
Once out of sight i continued to nearly fall off into some bushes as i was completely FUBAR. :)
Still, had a sip of some Vimto and carried on.

Nearing Aldford i came across two groups of 50+ cyclists with a Police escort. They also had support cars! I think i saw Pinarello’s team car.

Also for riding it realitivly easy i stopped off in Subway and had two breakfast subs, I’m a growing boy and i need my energy. :)

Imploded Freewheel [PICS]

March 14, 2010

I had a “just riding along” moment yesterday, I’d gone to deliver a card on my Fixie with my brother and once we’d got about a mile from home, I heard a rattling.
Had a look and my freewheel had split in half! Funny thing is, I’ve never even used it.

Mental, I’d bought the wheels second-hand so I don’t really care but just thought it was a bit odd.
Anyone had this happen to them?

I told my mum I’d be riding in tomorrow and low and behold, a while later. This feast arrives.

My mum rocks and quite frankly. She’s a legend.
